Class of 1989, On the Internet: Lidia Hwa Soon Anchisi
FROM: Gettysburg College- Department of French and Italian
Lidia Hwa Soon Anchisi received her Master's and Doctoral degree in Italian Language and Literature from New York University where she was awarded a Henry Mitchell MacCracken Fellowship and a Penfield Fellowship. Her dissertation, entitled Bodies in Bits and Pieces: Towards a Feminist Rereading of Gabriele D'Annunzio, poses a challenge as it does not simply re-read the early novels of a Decadent author under a feminist light, but also uses D'Annunzio as a pre-text to participate in the ongoing dialogue between feminist critical theory and psychoanalytical theory. Professor Anchisi's areas of interest include Gender Studies, Modern Italian Literature, 16th century Epic Poems, Women and Film and Comparative Literature.
Professor Anchisi received a double Bachelor's degree at Barnard College, Columbia University in Italian Literature and Language and French Literature and Language and completed her secondary education at the Lycée Français de New York.
Prior to coming to Gettysburg, Professor Anchisi taught Italian at New York Univeristy, as well as a course in Masterpieces of Italian Literature. Professor Anchisi also designed a new course on Gabriele D'Annunzio's early novels: "Gabriele D'Annunzio and the Novel of Decadence." Upon receiving her Ph.D., professor Anchisi taught for a year at the College of Charleston, where her responsibilities also included designing cultural events.
