The lycée fee of $17,500 a year is not enough even to cover running costs; but "I have parents who complain about the cost of tuition even though the fees are 40 percent less than most private schools in Manhattan," Thézé said. "I give presentations annually to educate them on the importance of donations," said Thézé, whose school does not receive any government subsidies from France. "Luckily, our parents make the gala an enormous success each year, and we have many French-American companies that support us." Last year the school raised nearly $2 million for its annual fund, half of it from a gala auction evening, designed to attract substantial corporate sponsorship. Proceeds from the fund not only covered the operating budget gap but also allowed the lycée to start a Mandarin Chinese language program........" |
