- Class of 1975, A Third Reunion in Paris!

By Andrea Migliuolo and Cyril Xuereb
Paris, le 23 mai 2006

It seems that the Class of '75 is on a reunion roll! Following two successful get-togethers in 2005 (Paris and NYC) they held another one in Paris in May 2006.

Just wanted to let you know that we had a grand time last week in Paris; the participants were Seth Lewis, Jerome Desforges, Jean-Gilbert Fabri, Jean-Marc Jacot, Cyril Xuereb, Maurith Orman, Hubert Mattia with his (very patient) wife, Benoit Cabanne and “yours truly”.

Jean-Gilbert organized dinner on a “bateau-mouche” and it was a lot of fun: when the waiter asked us if we wanted the basic menu which included 25 cc of wine each, a simultaneous and spontaneous growl emerged from the group: can you imagine us living on a small glass of wine for the whole dinner….. by the end of the evening, we must have gone through something like 6 or 8 bottles of wine, a lot of beer, a few scotches, etc.

Cyril was so surprised by all of this that, hear this, he even wrote a piece for the Alumni Association web site.

Pictures (very bad quality since all we had was Jean-Gil’s cell phone) are attached. By the way, a message to all of you wonderful women in the group: don’t be fooled by the very bad picture, Cyril still looks as good as he did 30 years ago; Benoit and I are frustrated and extremely jealous. I’ll be waiting for someone else to organize something nice in the near future…….

Not officially part of a graduating class (in my case, it would have been 1975), because I had left the Lycée (or been asked to leave) at the end of troisième, I was pleasantly surprised to hear a voice from the past on the phone, Hubert Mattia, inviting me to take part in a class reunion. Dreading these types of reunions for obvious reasons, I answered yes in spite of myself. Moreover, this reunion was going to be held on… A Bateau Mouche! How kitsch. Good thing, because it was with great pleasure that I hooked up with some old pals, some very close, others less, but all fun.

A little grayer (or outright white), a little rounder (those business lunches are killers), and a little wiser (or not), I saw once again Hubert (and his lovely wife), Andrea (Migliuolo), Seth (Lewis), Maurith (Orman), Jean-Marc (Jacot), Jérôme (Desforges), Jean-Gilbert (Fabri) and Benoît (Cabanne).

With some nostalgia, a lot of laughs and certain embarrassing stories, I spent a nice time aboard the Capitaine Fracasse, then, as any proper reunion should, finished the evening in a nearby dive. Jean-Gilbert had the brilliant idea of bringing along his laptop and showed us some of the November 2005 reunion in New York. Another nostalgic moment!

I want to thank Hubert for his perseverance, for having pulled me out of my cave and having given me the opportunity of renewing ties too long neglected, as well as all those involved in organizing this reunion. For all skeptics like me who shy away from class reunions, try it at least once, you may have a pleasant surprise. I did, and I await the next one with bated breath.
