----Former Professors and Staff----

Mme. Dorothee Brodin, M. Jacques Lafon
Mme. Dorothee Brodin, M. Jacques Lafon

Avis de Décès: ● Mme. Dorothée Brodin passed away on August 20th. Mme Brodin (wife of M. Pierre Brodin) taught English Literature at the Lycée Francais de New York from 1962 to 1972. A memorial service was held at Hunter College on November 3, 2005.
Mr. Jacques Lafon, Conseiller du Président Maurice Galy has passed away. He is survived by his wife Mme Lafon, Proviseur du Lycée during the mid 1980's, and two children and grand children. The funeral will take place on February 10, 2005.

● Patricia Lane ('77) sent us a very touching remembrance of Prof. Martin Kieffer. See 'Alumni Creative' section.

Jacques Quintallet (professeur de lettres, 1989-90) nous écrit qu'il "enseigne à l'université de Cergy-Pontoise, près de Paris."

Waldemar Kasriels ("Mister K"), Prof. and alum ('56) wrote: " It is always very emotional for me to read the alumni newsletter because it helps me remember the many wonderful years that I spent there and the hundreds of students that I have not forgotten. The ones that I scolded, and those that I taught to ski have always been close to my heart. Unfortunately I have also read the names of those who have died and that has been very difficult for me to deal with. Namely, Tibou Lubart('65) who spent so much time in Vermont with us skiing at Stratton and elsewhere. She entertained all of us with her singing and her guitar playing every winter for quite a few years. I would love to find out what happened to her brother.

You may have heard that Camp Normandie closed this year after 39 years of exciting summers. Now, we have not given up, au contraire, Normandie is transitioned into an adult resort called Normandie Beach Club. It will give us an opportunity to stay where we are and deal with those over 21. We are working very hard at the present to do all the necessary renovations. In fact, you can visit us at [click on link below].

It would be fun to see you and all those who remember me as well as those who have happily forgotten me. Once again, thank you for keeping me on your alumni list and Happy New Year. Best Regards, Waldemar"

Robert Kaiser wrote: "I am alive, well and professionally active. I own and operate Entropic Systems, Inc., an R&D company located in Woburn, MA. My children describe it as a 'Mom and Pop' high tech outfit. My wife, Madeleine, handles the administrative duties; I am responsible for the technical operations. The company focuses on developing novel 'nanocleaning' methods for the cleaning, sterilization or decontamination of high value electro-optical systems. Our client base includes agencies of the US Government and Fortune 500 Companies. ESI makes extensive use of interns from Northeastern University and MIT. One of the pleasures of my job is working with these budding chemical engineers, and watching them evolve professionally. I would be happy to hear from any jeune Ancien who would be interested in working with us. My e-mail address is [available upon request from AALFNY]"

and enjoy every minute of it.

Eric Petermann shared this with us, about himself and several classmates: "I'm currently living in France near Strasbourg. Married and father of three children who love to sift through the old LFNY yearbooks when dad was at school and wore that awesome uniform. I work for France's national weather service. It's nice to read class notes from old friends like Alexandra Giurgiu, Karine Lestelle and Isabelle Beaudry. Other class of '76 info: I lost track of Emmanuel Jaeger (sorry Isabelle !) but Olivier Martin is alive and well and living near Paris. He's a physics research director and is married with two children. Nicolas Haimo lives in Paris and is a professional musician (news given by Marc Jensen). Denis Logerot is a vet-doctor, lives in eastern France and likes to take pictures from his ultra-light hang-glider-plane (but I haven't seen him in 25 years)."

We completed our residencies in 1990 and had our first child that year - Kenneth. We moved to San Francisco in 1991. I started additional training in Hematology/Oncology at UC San Francisco and joined the faculty upon finishing in 1994. I specialize in taking care of patients with lung cancers and sarcomas (tumors of bones, muscle and connective tissues). In the interim we had two additional children - Lillian in 1992, and Robert in 1993. All three children are dual citizens, all three go to the Lycee Francais Laperouse. Kenny, now in high school, moved to the Lycee Francais International. The other two will join him for 3eme and on. I am in regular contact with a few close friends from the LFNY (Jordan Stern, Laurence Stern, Alain Cloarec, Harold Hyman). Liz de Nesnera
Liz de Nesnera

Liz de Nesnera shared this touching update with us: "Well, I guess if there ever was a time for me to share, it's now. A lot changed for me in 2005. On May 24th, after 9 years (well – OK, technically a week shy of 9 years, but who’s counting :-) I got laid off from my job as Senior Project Manger and Sound Engineer. It was unexpected, but actually an amazing blessing. It allowed me to really fly towards my dreams!

August 1st, I officially started my new venture: CaregiversCommunity.com [see link below] I won’t go into my whole caregiving story here (you can get all the details at: http://www.caregiverscommunity.com/aboutus.html) but I am the primary caregiver to my mom who had a hemorrhagic stroke 11 years ago and is now wheelchair bound. I also took care of my dad, who had Alzheimer’s, until his death in 2003.

My mission in life right now is to get the word out to family caregivers on the importance of their taking time for themselves. I’ve gotten amazing support from caregivers (both family & “professional”) and have been booked to speak at several caregivers events. You can see my upcoming Calendar of Events at: http://www.caregiverscommunity.com/events.html

I decided that as a caregiver for the past 11 years, it was time for me to take that experience and help other caregivers. To give caregivers permission to be more than just caregivers. To help them realize that having a life, having fun and having guilt-free joy is essential to their being an effective caregiver as well!

I was also accepted to be the Northern NJ volunteer representative for the National Family Caregivers Association’s Caregiver Community Action Network (NFCA CCAN for short!). This has also allowed me to meet a great bunch of people who are working to get the word out on the important contributions caregivers are making. I have also been asked to be a member of the Board of the newly formed Caregivers of NJ.

On top of all that I also wrote an e-book (a PLAY-book as opposed to a "work"-book) which can be downloaded as an electronic e-book or bought as a printed copy http://www.caregiverscommunity.com/cooltools.html

Bref, if there are any LFNY'ers who are caregivers or who know of any one who could use some support, my website is a great place to start! It has been an exciting six months! All the best, Liz de Nesnera"

I live in North Carolina but have a marketing position that covers activities in Europe so I am on the other side of the Atlantic half of the time. For those of you who live in some of the European capitals or Istanbul, please send me an email if you wish so we can maybe try to meet some time! My husband is Chilean but has a business in Argentina near the Brazilian border, and we also travel to those countries regularly, so if anyone is there.... Hope the news and updates keep coming!"

How did I get here? I don’t know! But it’s a nice country (tumultuous but nice). I’m in love with a wonderful Lebanese girl and here I am, creating and correcting books in French for children and adolescents! Fortunately (that’s the “cool” part of my life) I am also playing music with a rock band (The New Government is our name) and still fulfilling my passion for acting. I would so very much like to have news from any of my school mates back in my “Lycée Français” years! I didn’t realize that reading news from ancient friends would be an emotional experience too. I was very shocked to read about Bianca Pujol’s accident and death. I remember her, she was a very sweet and beautiful girl. I remember teachers, places, conversations, Monsieur Otalora, Madame Mouté, Madame Thébaut (oh please no): where did everybody go? Cheers, Jérémie."
