On the Internet, Class of 1969: Dr. Alison Estabrook & Steve Goldschmidt

Alison Estabrook is Professor of Clinical Surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. She attended Barnard College, where she graduated cum laude in Biology. She obtained her Medical degree at New York University, and then did her residency in surgery at Columbia.

Dr. Estabrook stayed on at Columbia and became the Chief of the Breast Surgery Service in 1991. Her accomplishments include building a comprehensive breast service in which genetics, psychiatry and complementary medicine are fully represented.

Dr. Estabrook is also the co-founder of the Women at High Risk program, which offers medical care to women who are at the highest risk for the development of breast cancer becuase of family history, lobular carcinoma in situ, or gross cystic disease. She works with other physicians and volunteers, and has created support groups, a Resource Library, and a monthly free lecture series with speakers discussing topics of interest to hight risk women.

Dr. Estabrook's research interests include serum markers for breast cancer and ductal carcinoma in situ. She is a member of several committees including the Commission on Cancer.
