The Bastille Day Ball 2005 in NYC

Thursday, July 14th

New York

Our own Alessandra Gagliardi ('86) once again served on the Committee of French-Speaking Societies' (CAF) Ball Committee and helped to organize this year's Bastille Day Ball. She is also a newly elected member of the CAF's Executive Board, where she holds the position of Director of Communications. Her first project has been to co-ordinate all the PR and promotion for the Ball.

The Committee of French-Speaking Societies is holding its annual Bastille Day Ball, on Thursday, July 14th, 2005 from 7pm until 2am. The event is being held under the patronage of various French and American VIPs, such as the Consul General, Mr. François Delattre, as well as a number of New York City officials. The Ball is taking place in the Grand Ballroom of the Pierre Hotel, where music will be provided by the incomparable Joe Battaglia and the N.Y. Big Band, an 18-piece orchestra, as well as by a French DJ.

A fruitful collaboration with the event producers behind the wildly successful “French Tuesday evenings” will guarantee a young, hip crowd, in addition to the chic guests who attend the Bastille Day Ball each year. Attendance is an international mix, and fairly evenly split between French-speakers and non-francophones alike. Admission is $20. A cashbar is available.

There is a benefit raffle with a grand prize of two RT tickets New York - Paris, courtesy of Air France, the proceeds of which will go to scholarships for members of the French-American community. Tickets will be available for sale on-site at the Pierre Hotel for $5 apiece, and the drawing will be held at midnight.

This annual ball galvanizes the French-American community in NY and serves to build a bridge between two cultures whose rich histories have been intertwined for centuries. This event kicks off Bastille Weekend, which culminates in la Fête de la Rue, also co-sponsored by the Committee. For more information, please visit the links to the right.

We are pleased to inform you that Beck Lee ('78) has donated a luxurious theatre package, valued over $500, to the Ball's raffle, on behalf of the AALFNY. We would like to thank Beck profusely.
