Visiting Alumni Toasted

by Pascal Renucci ('91)

A half-dozen LFNY alumni converged upon the swank Q56 bar at the Drake Hotel on a rainy New York City evening, on May 3rd, for cocktails and catching-up.

Present were Alessandra Gagliardi '86, Vannessa Kaufman '74, Pascal Renucci '91, Jonathan Mandelbaum ('71), Stéphane Lautner ('98), and
Drues Vertes '83.

Jonathan was in town visiting from Paris (France), and Pascal was in from California. Pascal arrived first at the bar. Sometime later, he noticed a gentleman enter and nonchalantly prompt a waiter for the "Lycée Français De New York" party (with perfect French pronunciation). Hearing this, Pascal leapt from his chair to rescue the man from the waiter's vacant stare: Jonathan had arrived! Alessandra soon joined, which made for more efficient alumni recognition as others joined the group. Once all assembled, a medley of multi-colored drinks arrived, and topics were pondered. For instance, Stéphane had just started a new job in finance, and Jonathan described daily life in Paris. What made the gathering so distinctive was how alumni from all different years related so fluidly with one another. A few hours later, half the group departed, leaving Alessandra, Pascal, and Druce to walk a few blocks over to PJ Clarke's for dinner. The trio left the restaurant completely satiated from delicious burgers and home fries (and more drinks). The evening made for a very pleasant rendez-vous of people with a very distant, yet common past.
