(For further details at the Cercle de la Mer website, click on link below.)

Michele (Delahaye) Ristich de Groote ('46) recently shared her souvenirs about the Lycée in an interview with the LFNY that can be read by clicking on the link below.

Nadine (Bertin) Stearns ('48) : "I was born in NYC in 1930 of French father and Russian mother. Brought up speaking French, I was schooled at the Lycee Francais De New York, then the Spence School from which I graduated in 1948, followed by the Finch College in NYC for two years. My early multi-culturalism included experience in both the Russian Orthodox and Catholic religious teachings. Except for childhood art classes in school and a vague watercolor class years ago in Rhinebeck, I have had no art training. I have been studying with Betsy Jacaruso for five years and I prefer to paint flowers in the studio, rather than en-plein-air.
I have always spent a lot of time in museums and galleries studying art. During the sixties and early seventies I had the chance to meet many artists, including Barnett Newman, Rothko, Ken Noland, Helen Frankenthaler, Bob Motherwell, as well as others.
With family in England, France and Argentina, among other places, I travel frequently to these countries. I also spent time in Kenya in the seventies, enjoying animals in the wild.
Among other interests are music, gardening, cooking, reading, watching movies, travel, photography and studying new subjects. I speak French, Spanish, Italian, English and some Russian.
Over the years, I worked in retailing, advertising, public relations, promotion, and editorial writing and editing. My last long employment was for the Conde Nast Publications, where I worked on Vogue, House & Garden, Mademoiselle, in editorial or advertising/promotional jobs. And finally I helped create the international division of Conde Nast in the US, representing and supplying materials to their many publications world-wide." Audrey Clark-Kelm writes: "I left the Lycée in June of '43, having attended for 3 years. I had completed 4ème, but riots were hitting NYC and my parents put me in a school in the country. I met my husband of 53 years at McGill University French Summer School. We built our Spanish-style home on a hill in Playa del Rey, California overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Marina del Rey and the Santa Monica Mountains. I graduated Cum Laude from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. I served as Vice-President of Brookside Savings & Loan in Los Angeles.

We've been blessed with 2 daughters and a son, and 10 grandchildren. Currently I'm owner-manager of a multi-family apartment complex in Denver, Colorado and hope to slow down and smell the roses one of these days. My knowledge of French was a blessing when we traveled in 1964 with our two daughters for three months through 14 European countries, including 5 Communist-ruled countries which refused to acknowledge the English language.

We owned the first Travel Agency in Playa del Rey, which gave us the opportunity to travel all over the world. My last trip was to India and Nepal in '99 where I attended the 17th Annual Polo Match where the players rode elephants, not horses. Life's been good and we're happy to enjoy good health. As for hobbies, the study of healing the body through proper nutrition, supplements, etc. and the study of the mind and how it operates, are my most pre-eminent ones."
