- Class of 1978 reunion in NYC

by Carla Rosen-Vacher ('78) and Natalie Yates Cacciato ('78)
Luxembourg and New York City

Working bi-continentally, Carla Rosen-Vacher in Luxembourg, and Natalie Yates Cacciato in New York, co-hosted a brunch get-together of Lycée friends, mostly from our Class of 1978, on the occasion of our (gulp!) 30th anniversary and Carla’s holiday in New York, on Sunday April 27th at Natalie and Richard's beautiful penthouse apartment.

The event was filled with the warmth of friendship and memories - made all the more special by the sharing with the new generation - starting with Alexander, Natalie and Richard's son, who is attending “Maternelle” at the Lycee. The family and children accompanying classmates enhanced our renewed bonding: Alexis Poinsard came to New York from France with his lovely wife and daughter. Eric Jacobsen's family drove down from Boston, and Geoffrey Knauth's two sons braved the early-morning trip all the way from central Pennsylvania! We caught up with glamorous Corinne Clejan and Deborah Nitke, and marveled at Annie Zeifman's accomplished life as veterinarian and mother. And of course nothing would be possible without our favorite Warren Beckwith Lee, who coordinated and provided his usual magic spark! Thanks Beck, especially for bringing us fabulous Enrico Fales!

Browsing through black-and-white Lycee yearbooks and seeing familiar faces and places, we reflected on our common experiences at the school and in New York City of the ’60s and ’70s. We learned about each other in ways we would never have shared-- much less understood-- at the time: about each other’s family stories; about our parents’ hopes and dreams for us and the challenges some parents faced in choosing the Lycee for us (especially if they didn’t speak French themselves); about our individual journeys to find our places in the world, and how our paths today are illuminated by the remarkable education and cultural sensitivities the Lycee gave us at a young and formative age.

Although many other classmates wanted to attend but couldn't make it, we were fortunate to exchange with Chantal (Sandra) Mariani, Livia Corredor, Stephanie Carson-Parker, Alain Benzaken, J.P. Brandt, Suzie Burger, Lianne Coleman, Annabelle Cone, Jonathan Feldman, Marie-Christine Fontanet-Gousseland, Nicole Girod Owens, Meredith (Meg) Goldman, Riccardo Guariglia, Caroline Harcourt, Marc Longhi, Aline Newton, Pierre Savy, Dara Sourinho, and Annella White - and hope to see everyone at a future reunion!

Carla, who came from Luxembourg to visit her mother in New York, deserves all the credit for initiating our get-together. Thanks also go to Roger Liwer ’68 (aka RogerSanit), webmaster of the AALFNY, Inc., for getting word out to classmates so fast. It wasn’t a lot of notice for people who hadn’t seen each other in 30 years or more and, between the Spring Break, Passover and Orthodox Easter holidays, a lot of New York City-based classmates were away. Luckily the Find-A-Classmate and Class Notes sections of Alumni Association website at http://www.lfnyalumni.org are great tools for friends to reconnect-- check them out!
