Class Notes Archives

----- From January 2009 AALFNY Newsletter -----

Maïté Carcedo wrote: "I had a baby boy on October 6th 2008, 7lbs 8oz, 20 1/2 inches. His name is Noah Alexander, and we are doing great. I have attached a recent photo of both of us (he is 3 1/2 months there). I am back at work now, I am still working at Ericsson, after almost 13 years! My first eight were in NY, the last five have been in Dallas, after they closed the NY office."

Nlandu Nguayila wrote: "Hi. This is just to wish all my former classmates a Happy New Year 2009 and to send a picture of myself after so many years. Alex, I wouldn't have recognized you in that picture had you not mentioned your activity now. In case you're wondering, who I am...our names always used to follow each other in alphabetical order. Greetings to all."

Marcel Agueros is an NSF Astronomy & Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellow at Columbia University.

Nlandu Nguayila wrote: "Hi. I left the LFNY in the first quarter of 1985.I was in 6eme A3. I was happy to read messages from Alehandro Munoz-Ledo, Marcel Agueros and Vivian Holtzman. Greetings to all. I am currently back in my homeland after spending alomost 12 years in Poland. So I have enriched my language skills to four now. I have also become an avid born again christian (the best part of my life). Special greetings to some of my then close buddies Roger Mashihi, Gaetan Ouedrago, Sonia Marcus, Vivian Holtzman , etc. I remember all my former collegues (trust me). If anybody writes I will definitely respond."

Alejandro Muñoz-Ledo wrote: "Hi to everybody! I'm glad everybody is doing great. We should really think about organizing some sort of reunion. I was in contact a couple of years ago with Marina Treves, Jean Marc Ariano, Carine Salvy, and Francoise Plusquellec. After more than 14 years working for the Mexican government, I finally came back to the U.S. and established my own business (AXIS CGM) helping mexican companies trade in the US. I am based in Houston TX. Saludos!"

Jean-Philippe Lamarcade is an engineer working for EDF in Thailand. He wrote: "If any other alumni live in Thailand, I propose to organise an informal meeting for all of us."

Nlandu N’guayila wrote: "Hi all. I recognized practically all the names of my classmates. I don't know if anyone remembers me. (The big black guy who loved running). I am glad to read about you guys. It has been years since I left the US and the Lycee in 1985. I have since been to Congo and Poland and back to Congo. It would be great to read from such good friends like Sonia Marcus, Vivian Holtzman, Roger Mashihi, just to name a few (any way, I remember you all, trust me).All the best to all and God bless."

Joanna Hawa wrote: "It's so good to see all the names again!! I have to admit I have forgotten a few. Nevertheless it's good to know what everybody is up to. I am still in the advertising field at Impact BBDO. My daughter is now 13 and so much more taller than me!! I still live in Beirut despite all the political tension. I hope everybody is doing well. I really hope to see all of you again someday... Keep in touch."

BIRTHS/NAISSANCES:
Moya (Anchisi) Dawson wrote: "My husband Jonathan and I are delighted to announce the birth of our second son, Tommaso, on January 22nd 2007 - a little brother for Harry. Luckily, the best tip I ever received about having two kids was that chaos is acceptable!! Despite the mini tornado in our house we are all well and happy. I will be returning to work this September, always as a paeditrician in London."

Marcel Agueros wrote: " I moved back to NYC this fall to start a post-doc in the astronomy department at Columbia. Probably my most active
connection to the Lycee right now is Annie Vanrenterghem, our former math teacher in 3eme, whom I see on a semi-regular basis. I was in touch with Sonia Marcus for a little while last year while she was at Ohio State, but she seems to have disappeared... and I owe Vanina Holasek's gallery a visit."

Manuel da Graça shared this with us: "I am building my business, starting with the Translation pole ... more news coming on that one. But most of all, I am getting married in September with a beautiful woman of God."
Manuel sent us an update after his wedding: "On September 2nd 2006, Allana Todman and myself got married at World Changers Church International in Atlanta, Ga."

Danielle Levine wrote: "Was so happy to find the Class Notes and see what everyone has been up to! I left the lycee after 5eme and went to Spence (just down the street on Madison but seemingly worlds away). After that, I attended Duke and then came back to New York to get a JD/MBA. I have been at Morgan Stanley in New York ever since... Pretty linear (so far!), but life has definitely not been boring. Would love to hear from people!"

Cordelia Newlin wrote: "So it took a British friend of mine living in Central America who was trying to track me down to find this site and then flag it to me! I've lived a couple of lives since I left the Lycee and have been mostly based in the UK for the last decade, though I did manage to escape to Turkey for a year to teach sailing and windsurfing, which I know sounds improbable in light of the fact I almost always had a note to get out of gym class. I think I am almost impossible to track as I go by my married name of Lindgren – though I am no longer married. I moved back to the States in late 2003 and live with my Architect boyfriend Javier. We live in Brooklyn and have a mad red mutt called Diego. I now work for a small foresight think tank and am finally finishing my undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies at Hunter College. I am in touch with Moya and am going to visit her in London this summer to meet Harry. I am also in touch with Sophie Laffont and Sandrine Lago who are both here in NY and doing brilliantly. I was also briefly in touch with Astrid and somehow managed to misplace her email. Best to everyone."

Marina Treves wrote: "Still happily living in New York; it's been 3 years already since I returned from France! I'm working as an Conference/Event Coordinator at Simpson Thacher Bartlett, a very very busy law firm. I just recently moved out of the noisy city to a calmer life in the burrows with a sweetheart that I've been with for over 1 year; so far, so good! :)"

● From Jeantet Fields: "How wonderful to find this web page with notes and friends from so many years ago. C'est super de voir que vous avez tous trouvé du succès. Best regards to all."

Agnès Lemerle wrote: "After the Lycée I moved back to Paris with my two sisters (Caro 1992 and Laetitia 1995), got my BAC littéraire, then Sorbonne,then......Club Med for six years as a choreagrapher (in charge of animation), great years that led me back to France and finally the south, in Montpellier, where I have finally settled down with my husband Nicolas Raffin Peyloz and my two girls, Camille (3 years old) and Jeanne (8 months old). We live in a lovely place where all are invited to stop if your nearby. I work at home as a graphic designer and I have finally done my website where you can see all the latest things that I've done: www.koklikodesign.net [click on link below]"

Carolina Freitas da Cunha wrote: "I attended the Lycée from 1987 to 1989 and have good memories of the time I spent there. I returned to New York to do an MFA in Film at Columbia in 1997 and am currently working as a freelance film assistant director in São Paulo, Brazil. Discovering this site made me oddly nostalgic, something I never suspected I would be regarding any time spent at high school. I send my regards to the classmates of '91, who by the looks of it have outgrown their rowdy highschool selves...I myself am still working on it."

Christel (Dubus) Windenberger wrote: "Hello everyone, I've just been on the website and It's great! I've found news of lost classmates and as you say in french : "ca fait chaud au coeur". I was really happy to hear from Johanna, Amina, Moya, Fred, Marina. Now I long to hear from Florence, Jérôme, Marcelle, Zouzou, Nathalie... and especially, of my two great friends Carolina Da Cunha and Christine Hyunh. Do you know where they are? Any e-mail?? I've lost touch with them............On my side, a big change because after 2 years, my husband and I finally had a little baby girl, born on 4th of August 2005, named Zoé. She is now 5 months old and we are just madly in love with her!! Johanna, you have an 11 year old girl ??! Waouh! Send us pictures! Moya, I've seen that you too had a little boy in 2005. It's great, isn't it? You know what, Zoé almost got named Moya, because I remembered you and thought your name original&cute and it was in the short list! Funny?!............On the professional side, I'm still working for Michelin but changed job and I'm responsible for Marketing Services now, in the truck business. Long to hear from you all...Cheers"

------From June 2005 AALFNY Newsletter------

Sonia Marcus sent us this news: "Hello to all my old friends! I was at LFNY from 12eme until 4eme, at which point I left to high school at Dalton. Sadly I've fallen out of touch with almost all of my friends from the lycee francais other than Vivian Holtzman and Cordelia Newlin who I have had contact with from time to time... I went to college at Stanford in CA and then I worked as a documentary film and video editor for a number of years in NY before moving to Senegal where I spent 3 years. Now I'm in grad school at Ohio University where I look at how to use communication/media for social change and development. Would love to hear from any/all classmates (especially Astrid, Patricia, Vivian and Cordelia -- and Axel who still owes me $20 from a bet we made in 8eme!). My warm regards to everyone!"

● From Manuel da Graça: "Just moved to Atlanta after spending three years in Lisbon, Portugal, coming from Libreville, Gabon where I managed a radio for four years ... Arriving from Paris, France where I was attending a business school ... been travelling ...Hum ... Born Again here in ATL ;-D"

● BIRTHS/NAISSANCES: Moya (Anchisi) Dawson (See Milestones section for further details.)

Joanna Hawa wrote this for her classmates: "Hey everybody! I've been living in Beirut, Lebanon for eleven years now. After taking a few years off from college I went back in 2000 to finish my BS in Graphic Design. I have been working ever since my graduation at Leo Burnett in Lebanon and I love it. I have an 11 year old daughter called Yasmina. I just want to say hello to everybody and hope everybody is doing what they set out to do! Kisses"

Pamela (Guiraud) Darondeau writes: "My husband and I are planning on going to NY this summer, and we are studying the possibility of coming to live in the States (not necessarily in NY). We both are food science engineers (ingénieur agroalimentaire). I work in marketing at Heinz (ketchup), Hervé, my husband, works for Bourjois Chanel (makeup and perfume)." She also asks:
"Would you have any advice regarding web sites, people to contact... to find a job in the US, hopefully for both of us? I'm willing to start networking. We would like to move as of Sept 2004, since my husband finishes an MBA in June."

Manuel da Graça wrote: "Hy to all of u who still remember! Marc Jacquand writes: “I am now with the United Nations' Special Unit for Microfinance in New York. After graduating from the Lycée in 1991, I went back to France to study at HEC until ‘96, then moved back to NY where I worked on Crédit Lyonnais' equity trading floor before going back to school to get a Masters in International Affairs at Columbia University. After a brief - one year - stint in DC for a microfinance organization, I moved back to NY in September 01 to join the UN. Traveling is good, but I’m trying to keep it to a minimum now that I am married, to Rhona, whom I met back at Crédit Lyonnais. Hope all is well for class of ‘91.”

Alejandro Muñoz-Ledo writes: “Hello from Mexico! Actually, I left the Lycée in late 1985, but was unable to complete my ‘premier cycle’ (12ème-5ème). I am now living in Mexico City, working for a major commercial bank (Bancomext), married and have two baby boys. I remember my classmates quite well, and have actually tried to contact them (unsuccessfully I might add!) The only person I kept in touch with for a while was Carine Salvy, who was working in New York for Paribas until about 2 years ago. Anyway, I am glad to be back in touch with the Lycée community, and not at all surprised to find Francoise Plusquellec as class secretary! Finally, I was really glad to read Marina Treves’ note. Congratulations to her! By the way, will there be (or has there been) a class reunion? Is there one in the making?”

Marcel Agueros writes: « I am currently between my 2nd and 3rd years of graduate school at the University of Washington pursuing a PhD in astronomy, and am spending two months in Japan as part of an NSF summer program. My plan to go to every World Cup from 1994 on is still on track, as I managed to get a ticket (at less than face value!) for the Brazil-Turkey semifinal. »

Karine (Leonhard) Beers writes : « I attended the Lycee Francais from 1986 to 1989. I would have graduated with my class in 1991, but moved back to France and went to the Lycee International de Saint Germain en Laye my senior year. I went to law school at Nanterre in Paris and graduated William & Mary in Virginia with a LLM and currently work in a law firm in North Carolina whose main practice is criminal law. I would appreciate hearing from those that I knew back then and in particular Corinne Hascouet ’91 with whom I would pass notes in English class!»

Marina Treves writes: I live in Paris where I am the Assistant Coordinator of the International Diabetes Federation Congress (taking place in Paris, August 2003.) Being a diabetic myself for 15 years, I have finally been able to integrate an association with an important mission for all people affected with this illness -kind of a dream come true for the past several years. Working for a cause, helping people who are suffering and fighting for the rights of people with diabetes is truly a reward. I am not married yet and have no children, but let's take one thing at a time! Would like to hear from my classmates, wherever they are and if they remember me!»

There she bought horse to pursue her hobby of riding dressage. She then moved back to San Francisco where she married Bobby Beck who is also a computer animator at PIXAR animation studios. Eva now works at a video game company called Infinite Machine in Berkeley, CA, as a character animator. She would like to get in touch with other classmates of her 1991 graduating class, especially Marcelle Amiot-Priso and Corinne Hascouet (now married), and Marcel Faivet.

Moyra Dawson writes: "I came across the 'Find a Classmate' website one night when I was on call at the hospital during a little lull in between screaming children and frantic parents and was a little suspicious...but no! What a good thing it was to join. I left NYC 10 years ago this October for the sunny shores of England and the LFNY gang seemed to scatter to the four winds. Now I know that you all still exist! When I left I went to med school in Bristol, UK, and graduated in '97. I am now specializing in Paediatrics (UK spelling!) and infectious diseases. I married an English boy - should I say chap? -, Jonathan, in July 2000 in Italy and am now living in the countryside in Leicestershire. A far cry from NYC! Would love to hear from the Promotion de '91."
