In Memoriam:
Pierre Treuil (†2000)

Peter Herford wrote: "I would enjoy hearing from anyone of the ancient tribe. My life in China continues, nine years and still teaching and living in Shantou about 300 kilometers up the South China coast from Hong Kong. If anyone from any class finds themselves in the vicinity, let me know and come spend a day or two in what I call "the real China" not the mega-cities of Beijing and Shanghai. If you are in the fields of journalism, advertising or marketing, all the better, I'll pay your way in from anywhere in China and put you to work with a lecture or two to an exciting generation of students."

(Editor's note: The parents of Nadine and of her sister Francelyne (Oppert) Lurie ('57) --Yves and Pauline Oppert-- were members of the French resistance during WWII who worked "with a network of Catholic and Protestant volunteers to hide, and save Jewish children left behind by Polish, Hungarian, Romanian and French Jews when they were deported to the concentration camps.....while [their] two daughters were being cared for by Pastor André Trocmé in Le Chambon-Sur-Lignon." At that same time, the parents of another LFNY alum' --Pierre Sauvage ('62)-- were being sheltered in the same town, where Pierre was born towards the end of the war. Read more about the Opperts here: http://jwa.org/encyclopedia/article/fink-paulette-weill-oppert, and about Pierre Sauvage's award-winning documentary about Chambon, Weapons of the Sprit, here: http://chambon.org/)

Catherine (Nebolsine) Coulter "was born on January 21st 1934 in London, England. [She] practices classical homeopathy half time since 1961, full time since 1974. Peter Herford wrote: "Seven years at Shantou teaching journalism and Exec Director of the International Media Institute; after 27 years at CBS News, 6 years teaching at the Grad School of Journalism at Columbia, Director of the Benton Fellowships for Broadcast Journalists at the University of Chicago for 3 years, 3 years as Executive in charge of Production for Public Radio International in Minneapolis/StPaul; 3 years as consultant to TV Cabo in Lisbon Portugal creating an all-news cable channel; country director for IREX in Croatia assisting independent journalists in the waning years of the Tudjman regime, Communications Director for the late Senator Broack Adams (D WA)."

Patrick de Koenigswarter shared this with us: "Patrick de Koenigswarter, twice attended LFNY, initially during WWII as an adopted refugee from occupied France (while both his parents volunteered and fought from 1940 to 1945 as officers in the 1ere Division Francaise Libre), later passing his 2nd, bachot at LFNY in 1953 when his by then diplomat father was stationed in New York by the French government.
He has lived in many countries around the world including Norway, Mexico, Indonesia, Peru (all places where his father was given diplomatic postings), as well as in the U.K. and the U.S. where he studied - respectively Oundle School (Peterborough, England), Lycee Franco-Mexicain (Mexico City), Northeastern University and Columbia Graduate School of Business (Boston and NYC, USA), where he completed his studies in 1963). Since that time he has lived and worked at one time or another in the U.S., Spain, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan and the People's Republic of China, among others.
Since 1970 he has been principally based in Manila and became a permanent resident of the Philippines in 1984 upon retirement from business. He married a Filipina model and fashion designer in 1987, from whom he is now divorced. They are parents of David, a 19 yr old Manila university student and tennis scholar.
A lifelong aficionado of photography, in which he took a 6-month professional course in New York after graduating from Columbia, Patrick has, since retirement, devoted himself to it, and in the process has held numerous exhibits as well as having his work, consisting mainly of nature, portraits, tribal, museum and fashion photos, published in many, newspapers, magazines and coffee table books.
He is currently in the process of attempting to learn to operate a digital camera."

Patrick de Koenigswarter wrote: "By sheer coincidence, I came across the AALFNY website on the net, and saw- under the "class of 1953" the photograph of the cover of one of my books ["In the Gardens of the Philippines"] with "photography by Patrick de Koenigswarter '53" under it. If memory serves me correctly, I was a student at the Lycee Francais from around 1940-1941 through the "Annee Scolaire 1945-1946". In fact the only concrete souvenir or relic I still have of the school in my possession is a photocopy of my "Bulletin Trimestriel- Classe de 7e, 1er Trimestre, 1945-1946"
After WWII ended, my father, who had spent the war as an officer fighting in the Premiere DFL was demobilized, fetched me in N.Y. and we returned to Europe. I came back to N.Y. briefly in 1953 to pass my bachot at the Lycee. After several years of university studies in the U.S. (culminating in obtaining my MBA at Columbia University in 1963) followed by working in a number of different countries, I have resided in the Philippines for the past 3 decades. I would be very interested in any information or records that might still be available about my studies at the Lycee, as well as ascertaining the whereabouts of any of my still living classmates."

Peter Herford wrote: "I left the Lycee in 52 short of the bacho...I remain working and living in Shantou China at Shantou University where we recently concluded both a film festival for American and Chinese Directors, plus a War Reporter's Conference led by our newest faculty member Peter Arnett who has decided to end 50 years of war reporting in a more peaceful setting."
