- Class of 1987 reunion in NYC

by Nick Meltzer ('87)

The class of '87 held a weekend reunion in NYC in August, 2007, organized by Nick Meltzer, assisted by Micheline Dugué. Here is some of Nick's correspondence describing the event, as well as messages from others who attended:

For those who could not attend:
This message is intended for those of you who could not attend the Class of '87 20 Year Reunion in NYC. Simply stated, it far exceeded my expectations from when I began organizing the event some 5 months ago.
I was thrilled with the attendance, and more importantly, ecstatic to see so many old friends. It sure did not seem like 20 years had passed once we all got together. Rather than try to describe the events of the weekend, I have selected a few e-mails from those who attended that best describe the feelings and emotions that were felt as we all partied together. These e-mails were shared among the attendees immediately after the reunion weekend.

One final note before you read the e-mails. I have created a website at www.kodakgallery.com where we have begun loading pictures from the reunion. You will notice that I have created 5 albums (3 that are dedicated to the reunion itself, 1 for "before" pictures of the Class of '87 and 1 for "after" pictures of the Class of '87). For those of you who did not attend, please feel free to load pictures that you may have from the Lycee days in the "before" album and current pictures of yourselves and your family in the "after" album. You were all sorely missed and and we would love to see and hear from you. In order to view and add pictures to the website, you simply need to click on the website and logon. Userid and password: [available fro AALFNY or Nick Meltzer upon request]

For those who attended:

Hey everyone, Just a quick thanks to all of you for making this such a great weekend. The voice is slowly coming back (still have the Kim Carnes thing going on) but the body has mostly recovered. This event far exceeded my initial expectations and it was great to see that 20 years did nothing to weaken the friendships built long ago. I certainly hope that this will serve as a catalyst for more get togethers between old friends.

Tonight I intend to set up a website where we can all load our pictures so expect another e-mail by tomorrow with the details. This e-mail contains all the e-mails of those who attended the reunion so you now all have each others e-mails. I have the e-mails of about 30 other classmates who were not able to attend so do not hesitate to contact me if you need them. You can also go thru the Alumni Association to get e-mails as well. Speaking on behalf of the "NY Crew", if anyone is back in the NYC area let us know as we are always looking for an excuse to get together.

I would like to give a special shout out to Guillaume Rambourg who picked up a sizable tab on Friday night. You da man!! Also, Guillaume will be running his 3rd NYC marathon in early November so "NY Crew", put that in your calendar, it's gonna be party time. Once again, thanks to all for coming and looking forward to seeing you all again real soon.......... Nick

Messages from others

"Well...there's a unanimous reaction if ever I saw one! I still get emotional (very emotional) thinking back to Friday night. I loved seeing everyone again and will carry the innocent warmth of that evening as emblematic of our younger years together. Who knew it was still strong after more than 2 decades?
I can't wait to see and post photos tomorrow...no subjective editing please!!!
Thank you to those who travelled from far away, to Nick and Micheline, to NYC and to Guillaume for stocking the alcoholic fire with such generosity!!! And to those that couldn't make it: you missed one hell of a time so join us for the 25th :) Kisses to all and looking forward to staying in touch and getting together again. Love..."

"I have been receiving emails all week and each one of them gives me a lump in my throat and makes me smile from ear to ear. I always knew that the Lycee was a unique and special place and it is because my friends there were such amazing people. Friday night I just looked around and was reminded of why the lycee years were some of the happiest in my life (with the exception of math class). Everyone looks great (I mean that) but more importantly, that essence of who we are were back then is still very much there.
Well...there may be one exeption to that....Guillaume!
When did you become the LIFE of the party and where did you pick up all those dance moves?!?!?!
I cannot thank you, Guillaume, enough for your generosity on Friday, and Micheline and Nicholas for bringing the spirit (and ensuing logistics) alive and quite literally making this happen. What a wonderful gift to us all.
I feel very nostalgic these days and I am going to feel even more so on the first day of school in September when Bettina embarks on her own Lycee journey. It is one of my deepest wishes that she is as happy there as I was, and that she makes friends for life there as I did.
love always."

"Wow, in between diapers, late night rocking (the baby), and work, I've actually been experiencing some heavy reunion withdrawal (and it's not just from the alcohol). First, let me shower some more praise on Micheline and Nick who organized with some determination, and on the sponsor of our fine picnic hangovers, Guillaume (also to Alexandra for the time at Opus). I will remember lots of belly laughs, fun and interesting exchanges, and not an awkward silence during the whole time. A scorching weekend to refresh our ideas, tickle the heart, and to recall why we are what we are.
Hugs to all."

"Hey guys, Now I think maybe I should have let you twist my arm a little harder on Friday night at Taj to spend a couple more hours with you. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a group of people be so genuinely happy to see each other again. I felt the love! Thanks Sebi for helping me put a name on faces as people were streaming in. I'm hoping to be in Paris this October, perhaps in time for the French/European version of this reunion. And maybe in Chile for 2008? I'll some of my old pix on the Kodak site this evening. Who's ladybunny2001? :-}"
