Nouvelles des anciens en FranceProgrès de l’association régionale de ParisJean-Marc Jacot ’75Dear All, Triggered by an email early 2002 from New York to some of us - who had shown an interest in the LFNY Alumni Association recently - a friendly meeting took place among six of us at Emma Skoble Bonnet's plush 16th arrondissement living room, on March 19th, 2002. Subsequently, we launched a wide-ranging invitation to all Lycée alumni living in the Paris area, for a fun evening get-together at the left bank "Frog & Princess" pub in Saint-Germain-des-Près, on April 9th, 2002. The following 17 people turned out among the clatter of beer mugs and various cheers: Christophe Content ('97) Guillaume Duthoo ('93) Maxime Hibon ('93) Lydia Letellier ('91) Laurence Philipona ('90) Jean-Marc Rety ('90) Emma Skoble ('84) Ghislaine Carson-Parker ('81) Natasha Rajakovic ('80) Claude Schenck ('79) Stéphanie Carson-Parker ('78) Harold Hyman ('77) Jean-Marc Jacot ('75) Hubert Mattia ('75) Maurith Orman ('75) Michele Zefferi (ex-Schenck) ('74) Marguerite Yates ('71) Encouraged by 'popular' support, our core-group (6 people) then decided to create a local association to facilitate the organization of further events. The paper-work and so forth was a bit laborious, but the declaration now finally seems to be in the works of the French administration (so God help us please), and we hope (our optimism is unshakeable) that by the end of 2002 or beginning of 2003, the foundation of the "Association des Anciens du Lycée Français de New York en France" will officially be announced in the French Republic's "Journal Officiel" ! Our President is Emma Skoble Bonnet. We have three Vice-Presidents : Harold Hyman, Hubert Mattia, & Maxime Hibon. One secretary: Jean-Marc Jacot. One treasurer: Maurith Orman. One of our projects, sponsored by Harold Hyman, and which the LFNY Alumni in the US might be interested in, is helping out the French Lycée in Kabul (Afghanistan) in various ways, such as books or computers - which a famous computer-maker, for example, has volunteered to send out to them. We also have the intention of working in synergy with all French Lycées of the world and their respective alumni associations, and with various institutions promoting the use of French (the world-famous "Francophonie" network). Harold Hyman also has serious contacts with the French-American Foundation (FAF), with whom we are planning to organize various events such as lectures and encounters (for example, a round-table debate on : "French-American relations since 9/11"). Contact : Prof. Michel GARCIN: fafparis@aol.com, Tél. : 01 42 18 57 53 In New York : French_AmerFdn@msn.com/ 509 Madison Ave., Suite 310, NY, NY 10022, Tel.: (212) 829-8800. We are also staging various social events, through our network of alumni. For example, we had free invitations to the yearly FIAC (International Contemporary Art Fair), which just ended yesterday (Oct. 27) thanks to an alumnus who is the Fair's Art Director, Véronique Jaeger ('84): it was a real blast, thanks Veronique ! As soon as the Association will be officially off the ground, we will convene a General Assembly and put the 'official' positions up to vote. We, the six founding members, are indeed but a 'council of transition', at your service! Kind regards, peace & love, Jean-Marc Jacot '75 Secretary |
