Dr. Edward Darell wrote: "Salut! It's taken me an awfully long time to do anything more than check out the site here and there, and I found myself on the "What ever happened to" list so many times that I wanted to finally put to rest the rumors of my death, which, to steal a line from Mark Twain, have been greatly exaggerated. I'd love to become reacquainted with my classmates, including those who beat me up, usually for good reason, and, of course, to meet other Lycee alumni."

Bennington, Vermont - February 27, 2009 "Inside an old manufacturing facility in Bennington, there is new reason to celebrate. Catamount Glass president Alain Karyo says, "We usually never lay off people. We have not done that in 30 years." This month, Catamount Glass is marking its 30th year in business. Alain Karyo started the company solo in a basement, with just $10,000 in sales. Now he has more than 20 employees and $1.6 million in product going out the doors. Karyo says he's gotten offers to move his business to China, but has turned them down because he wants to keep those jobs in Bennington. "It's almost like a family business," he explains. "People who have worked here worked a long time. Our decision was to make sure they stay and have a job." The company has an unusual specialty: making laboratory-grade heat-resistant glass. It's high-tech enough for use by scientists, but homeowners use the glass gravy separators, microwave popcorn poppers, measuring cups and more............."

● "As a child growing up in New York, Joan (Brenner) Dimancescu attended a French lycee, a school where courses were given in French and in English. That early bilingual training launched a career that brought her [in 1998] to head the rapidly growing French- American International School of Boston. More familiarly known as Ecole Bilingue, the school is spread over two campuses, one in Cambridge and the other in Arlington, to accommodate an enrollment that has doubled in the last five years...." Jackie Tolkowsky wrote: "After leaving the Lycée, I continued my education at a pensionnat in Switzerland which had a similar academic program. I also had a great time skiing. Upon my return to New York, after three years in Israel, I opted out of attending Vassar to care for my ailing father.
With my language skills in place, including Italian, German and Hebrew, I sought refuge in one of the only industries that valued language skills: the travel business. I loved chatting up both corporate clients and worldwide vendors and was a successful travel agent until the advent of the internet together with 9/11 impacted what had been a fantastic run. I now help multinational corporations with their real estate relocation needs and operate in the hectic Manhattan residential real estate market."

After leaving the Lycée, Jackie Tolkowski pursued her education at a pensionnat in Switzerland. She continued on to Israel, where along with completing hotel training school, she became passionately involved in archaeology. Upon her return to New York, she gave up going to Vassar in order to care for her ailing father. Over the years, Jackie evolved into marketing, doing stints in fashion, the arts and finally the travel business. Jackie has been a travel agent for over twenty years. In the aftermath of September 11th, she has relocated her accounts to an agency closer to home and continues her activities in the international marketplace. Jackie specializes in individualized service and, internet notwithstanding, finds that her clients appreciate her persistence as well as her depth of travel product knowledge. Jackie invites alumni to contact her for all their travel arrangement needs, corporate or private. She may be reached at [email address available from AALFNY upon request].
