Dana (Sloan) Scanlon wrote that she "has enjoyed another great year in real estate in the Washington DC metro area, having been voted One of the Best Realtors of 2012 by the Readers of Bethesda Magazine. Many of her clients are families whose children attend the Lycée Rochambeau in Bethesda, MD, which was attended by her two daughters. Her oldest daughter, Annie, just graduated from Concordia University in Montreal with a Bachelors in Sociology, and is teaching music and violin to young children. Youngest daughter Claire is in her second year in the College of Architecture and Planning at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Husband Leo is CISO at the National Archives. Dana's great pass-time continues to involve horses, and a Thoroughbred named Dover Glory was added to the family this year."

Avis de Décès: David Alix passed away on May 4, 2010.
Diane (Ansberry) Rahardja ('73) sent us this message: "David's mother, Madame Alix, was my teacher and David's in 7emeB. She passed away, getting on the subway, from the Bronx on her way to school, holding David's hand. Unfortunately David has also passed away much too soon." (See In Memoriam section of this newsletter for more details, or click on link below.)

Avis de Décès: According to the Hamptons.com newsletter, Jean Hertog passed away in July, 2009. (See In Memoriam section of this newsletter for more details, or click on link below.)

Diane Homo wrote that she "is well and alive in Paris." She enclosed pictures "two of my last paintings."

Christopher Yates wrote: "My professional affiliation has transitioned from the Netherlands-based Getronics to the Texas-based CompuCom. I continue to provide support to users who are not in the office, yet require access to the corporate environment remotely. Although, I am in the office daily, I may soon be working from a home office and I look forward to this new 'commute'."

Dana Scanlon wrote: "Salut tout le monde.......My oldest daughter Annie passed her Bac exam at the Lycée Rochambeau in Bethesda MD, and is now in her senior year at Concordia University in Montreal. The Bac earned her a full year's credit, an excellent reward for all the hard work involved.
Youngest daughter Claire left the Lycée Rochambeau after "college" to attend Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington MD. She is now a freshman at University of Colorado at Boulder, College of Architecture & Planning. No Bac, but lots of AP courses which have earned her quite a few credits towards her college degree.
Fortunately, my real estate business continues to grow and is keeping me quite occupied in the empty nest. I continue to ride horses, a life-long passion occasionally interrupted in recent years by unfortunate accidents. But I am back in the saddle and even venturing back in the competition arena.
My husband Leo is still CISO at the National Archives, and enjoys his sailing when weather permits. And occasionally I am at his side on the boat, but only if there is no chance of stormy weather."

Nicole Gotthelf wrote: "I had three Lycée encounters over the past week....Usually never have any Lycée encounters unless I am with Lycée folks.....The only one that I would write about is the last one:
Was in Madison WI where I used to live and was having dinner on Friday after Thanksgiving at Magnus -- a Scandinavian Haute Cuisine restaurant. My dinner companion asked our waiter what did he do for Thanksgiving dinner. He said 'I went to an orphan dinner for 15 people.' I asked what he made, he said 125 escargots (with a French accent). I said, 'are you French?' He said, 'I am from Alsace.' I said, 'I speak French because I went to Lycée Français de NY.' He said, 'I went to Lycée Français de NY!' I said, 'When did you graduate?' He said '1992 and I went there since the little grades (1980-92)!' I said, 'I graduated 20 years earlier, I was there for 10 yrs, left after Premiere.'
His mom worked at the Lycée and his dad was the former pastry chef at La Caravelle. My waiter's name was Mathieu Lorenzini ('94). Not only did he go to Lycée but he also went to Beloit College for a year -- from where I graduated! Small world." (Editor's note: Mathieu's mother was surveillante --Mme. Christine Lorenzini)

Then I had the opportunity to go to Paris and study law at "assas" university. After spending most of my life abroad, it has been quite a experience to discover the French people and their strange ways. But, eventualy, I got used to them. Still, most of my friends are foreigners, even today. I would love to know what became of all the people I knew back when I was at the Lycée, in that charming place near Central Park. If anybody remembers me, let me know !"

Dominique (Asper) Reginato wrote: "Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I'll be in New York from the 13th to the 18th of December - a short holiday with my husband. I'll be staying at Hotel Edison, and if anyone would like to have a reunion with an old lycée friend, just give me a call. I'd love to have news from former friends. Other than that, I'm still living in Geneva. My husband Franco, who is a physiotherapeute, has new professional plans for the future: He's studyng to do accupuncture as an extra formation. I'm now retired from music teaching; after 27 years I felt a change was due. So I've also started a new formation in sign language (language for the deaf), the opposite from my former work, but it's fascinating. My two boys are now 23 and 20: one is in actng school and the other in business school, and they are both doing fine. Voila! Hope to hear from old friends. Bye for now."

Specialty: assisting French-speaking clients in their relocation to the Washington DC metro area. Married, two teenage daughters (Lycee Rochambeau in Bethesda), one horse and a dog! ● "Jean-Louis Monfraix bought his first 35mm camera while touring as lead guitarist for the "East Coast Brass" in 1978 and has been photographing his "view of life" ever since. Jean-Louis was born in Lavaur, France, and raised in New York City, where he attended the Lycée Français de New York. His passion for photographing his "view of life" grew out of a boyhood fascination with the beauty of the natural world and the diversity of life on Earth. As a child, he could be seen running around the New York Botanical Gardens with a butterfly net, collecting specimens for his insect collection (and bee stings for his immune system). The name of Jean-Louis' photography business pays homage to his lifelong hero, the famous naturalist Charles Darwin, by quoting from the last sentence of the 1859 classic "On the Origin of Species", in which Darwin wrote: "There is grandeur in this view of life, ...". Indeed, Jean-Louis is a naturalist and biologist himself. He holds a Master's Degree in Zoology from the University of Florida and has taught biology as an adjunct professor at the American University in Washington, D.C., and at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida. Jean-Louis' photographs have appeared on the covers of publications for several multi-organizational national conferences…………" (From: Eastern Market.Net; http://www.easternmarket.net/index.php?id=fe&fe=56)

● From Dominique (Asper) Reginato: "After more then 27 years of teaching at the international school of Geneva as a flute teacher, I've decided to take an early retirement. My first self-produced CD got three and a half stars in Rolling Stone, along with other very nice reviews, back in '92; since then I have taken up the pedal steel guitar and gig frequently in NY. I am married for the second time, no kids, spend a lot of time in Connecticut with my wife, go back and forth between there and my place in NYC.
I don't stay in touch with my old classmates much, but not by choice. I would love to hear from my friends Debbie Lewis, Michel Amiel, Dana Sloan, Louis Foy, Anne Marie Backer, Sophie Gorek, Charles Masson, and many others.
Reading the list of the class of '73 I was amazed at how clearly I remembered everyone. I loved the Lycee, although by the time I left, it was time to go, and I would probably not have lasted the whole run. What a great time to have been a kid in New York."
