Success or Failure

by Gabin Langue Tsobgny ('85)

Success is more than often, a bumpy ride
Unless you stumble on it and in that case
You will not likely know its worth
like children toss away gifts
too hastily bought by their parents
it's hard to give value to something
for which you have not sweated
Success can also be bitter
like a pyrrhic victory
Sometimes the man or the woman
at the top of the mountain
wonders if it was really worth it
not having time for one's loved ones
the stabbing of those who were supposed to be
one's best friend or closest family
this is where success meets failure
it's lonely at the top, just like its lonely at the bottom.
