The Annual LFNY Alumni Spring Cocktail and Dinner Reunion

A Smashing Success!!!!!

On Tuesday, June 5th, the LFNY Alumni Association held its annual Spring Cocktail, with a few twists. This time it was held off-site, and we decided to offer a Dinner option to the evening and provided a lovely 3-course meal with wine.

The event took place at Spada restaurant on Third Avenue at 81st Street. We had the entire 2nd level of this cozy two floor restaurant to ourselves. The Cocktail portion kicked off at 6 PM with a cash bar and a lovely assortment of hors-d'oeuvres. At 6 PM on the nose, the first wave of alumni arrived and by 7PM it was standing-room-only at over 70 strong! The Cocktail committee, including Marie Noelle Colas Pierce '85- Cocktail Chair, Gabin Langue '85, Vivian Vertes '81, Elizabeth Galy '66, Ariane Waldvogel '86 and Gustaf Demarchelier '96, along with the Alumni Council members, did a lovely job of rallying support and ensuring a large turnout. On hand were photos of previous alumni Spring Cocktails and other alumni Reunions, as well as alumni archives- newsletters from the 1970s, minutes of Council meetings when the Alumni Association had its offices at 17 East 96th St (late 1960s), as well as "Wish I could come" emails and letters from out of town and overseas alumni (see Letters to the Editor.)

Among the alumni who came were: Robert Ayache '66, Kriti Siderakis '78, Sandra Kremnitzer Mintz '69, Christopher Kende '66, Fabrice Grinda '92, Du Nguyen '92, Mary Catherine Cripps '81, Ellen Weinberg Cohen '81, Patricia Barthe '87, Jeremy Yates '74, Eric Gotthelf '75, Michaël Bénéat '83, Marc Berhault '98, Julie Davis '74, Alexander de Bordes '67, Oscar Bleetstein '81, Livia Corredor Duffee'78, Leyla Ertegun '97, Polina Aronov '98, Vivian Vertes '81, Liliane Bwakira '88, Katia Richard '91, Robyn Frank Pedersen '81, Elizabeth Wishnick '79, Stephan Haimo '74, Ronald Grelsamer '71, Elizabeth Reiss Baecher '54, Ariane Waldvogel '86, Stephen Allen '80, Harriet Gerard '80, Caroline Harcourt '81, Konrad Motyka '81, Alexandre Dulac '96, Anastasia Trifonoff '96, Paul de Montmorin '96, Marie Noelle Colas Pierce '85, Gabin Langue '85, Beck Lee '78, Enrico Fales '78, Julia Lutzke'98, Nathalie Gest Young '86, Suzanne Bettina Gleckman Gleason '78, Vanessa Kelmans Kaufman '74 and Alumni Council members Alessandra Gagliardi '86, Natalie Yates Cacciato '78, Vivianne Hanania Kurzweil '74, Roger ("RogerSanit") Liwer '68, Robert Kulick '74, Gloria Tulliu '73, Micheline Dugue '87, Susan Schwenger '80 and Paul Schwenger '84. Frédéric Binder'86 (coincidentally in town for one day from Montreal!) stopped by after his business dinner to join his classmates. Friends, spouses, and significant others completed the circle of attendees.

Dinner was served at 8PM Thirty two alumni sat down, sometimes at individual class tables, more often at tables spanning several years to spread out the fun. Cocktail-only guests lingered nearby while diners ate, content to continue with drinks and catch up on more than a few decades of personal history and gossip! Diners were offered wine, salad, a choice of several entrées including roasted salmon, penne primavera, rigatoni with porcini or grilled breast of chicken, capped off by tiramisú and coffee. The last of the guests (about 15 or so) reluctantly left the restaurant at 11:30pm- clearly, no one was in a rush to leave since there was so much catching up to do! In fact, the class of '86 continued the festivities at Nathalie's home and were treated to a peek at her adorable sons, Spencer & Marcus.

Three door prizes were drawn after the main course was served. Beck Lee '78, President of Media Blitz, Inc., generously donated (for the second year in a row) 2 tickets to the popular lunchtime one-act play series "Food for Thought" at the National Arts Club; the tickets were won by Caroline Harcourt '78. The current series, which runs through June 28, features readings with name actors, catered lunch and a Q&A immediately following the performance. Upcoming performers include Jane Powell, Campbell Scott, Kyra Sedgwick, Earle Hyman and Ally Sheedy (for ticket information, please call (212) 362-2560). Robyn Frank-Pederson '81 donated an autographed copy of her book, published by Simon & Schuster, entitled MBA Part-Time: An Insider's Guide (a Kaplan book.) That lucky winner was Suzanne Gleckman Gleason '78. The last winner was Beck (!) who won a L'Oréal beauty package donated by Marie-Noëlle. He assured us that the products would go directly to his wife!

All of the guests who came to the Cocktail and Dinner Reunion graciously paid their voluntary $25 Annual Dues. Others generously made an additional donation to the AALFNY, Inc.

We would like to thank all those who were able to come for their presence as well as for their support. We would also like to thank all those who sent in donations and good wishes, though they could not attend the event. A terrific time was indeed had by all, and we hope to even see more of our fellow alum at our next event...to be announced!
